ABOUT
Line boring and welding is a process which repairs and realigns worn and damaged bore holes in heavy equipment, marine and forestry equipment and other industrial applications. The process involves the precise centering and alignment of a rotating boring bar to which various cutting tools are secured. As the boring bar rotates within the bore, the cutting tool advances horizontally across the surface being machined. As the inside bore diameter is gradually increased, wear damage or misalignment is removed until perfect circularity and alignment is restored. Once perfect alignment and circularity is restored to the bore, the inside diameter has been increased beyond any useable size. The base material removed to achieve circularity must be replaced. A specialized piece of equipment called a “bore welder” is utilized to perform an internal welding operation which replaces the base material. The bore welding operation is performed as needed until the bore inside diameter is brought to a “too small” result. The line boring operation is then performed until the required inside diameter is machined to OEM specifications.
